Catching automatic escape before it steals the next minute

When your hand moves before you decide, choice can still return. A plain look at autopilot - without shame, scores, or phone-only framing.

Your hand reaches. The tab opens. The feed loads. Somewhere in that half-second, the minute you meant to spend on the next real thing quietly left the room.

That pattern is not a moral failure. It is an automatic escape - a cue-linked pull that skips the moment of choice. Phones are a common stage for it. They are not the only one. The same loop can show up in a snack, a scroll through messages, a sudden "I'll just check," or a conversation you leave without noticing you left.

Most products answer that loop with a counter. Open the app every day or the flame dies. Miss once and the chain breaks. The miss becomes a stain, and the product becomes a small source of dread.

TCP was built the other way around.

Autopilot is the miss. Kind return is always available.

What we measure instead of a streak

We care whether you noticed a real cue in a real context - not whether you opened the product every calendar day.

A protocol like SPARK walks a quieter path:

  1. A story that makes the human problem feel real - not as your diagnosis, but as a mirror you can recognize.
  2. An honest Starting Point. Five descriptive self-view items. No total score.
  3. A framework you can hold when the pull starts.
  4. One prepared move for a real context in your life.
  5. Honest practice logs: caught it, missed it, chose rest on purpose, or said "not sure."

Missing a day costs nothing. A miss is information, not a punishment. That sounds soft until you notice what punishment streaks actually train: compliance with the app, not skill in the moment.

Late catching still counts

You do not have to catch the pull at the first flicker. Catching it mid-scroll still puts a decision back on the table:

  • return to the work
  • take deliberate rest
  • reach for a person
  • keep intentional use
  • name honest uncertainty

Late catching still counts as catching. The goal is not perfection at the cue. The goal is getting a decision back onto the table before the hour disappears.

What we will not claim

We will not tell you that noticing the pull once "cures" escape. We will not fuse your practice logs into a personality score. We will not pretend a later Progress Check proves the platform caused the change. Side-by-side self-view is descriptive. That is enough.

If streak theatre has already trained you to dread opening anything, read practice without streak shame. Or start free and meet SPARK's quieter loop yourself.
